Incident Care Team Members (Volunteering Opportunities)

Job Introduction

We are seeking colleagues to become Incident Care Team Members across the network

Southeastern’s Incident Care Team provide practical support to Customers affected by incidents on the railway network. We are now taking on new members, with applications open until the Monday 23rd June 2025. We are looking for around 20 new members, to completement the 70+ dedicated team of passionate volunteers in our great team.

"The Incident Care Team is an extension of the duty of care that we have to our passengers, providing immediate and practical support to those affected by major incidents and accidents across our network, and sometimes even further", explains Joel Walker, Incident Care Team Deputy Manager.

All members of the Southeastern Incident Care Team are dedicated to ensuring the safety of all our people and passengers.

We are seeking influential volunteers to join ourselves and support our work alongside your daily role.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in a team dedicated to practical humanitarian response to the rail incidents and accidents.

The role of an Incident care team member includes:

  • Being able to handle challenging, emotional situations whilst under pressure, including supporting family members and witnesses of traumatic events.
  • Being able to work well in a team, with effective communication & listening skills, along with good experience of record keeping.
  • Being a Caring, patient, compassionate and respectful in manner, with an assertive, honest, and confident approach.
  • We welcome applications from everyone, particularly those that are not in a safety critical role.

To be chosen for this volunteering opportunity, you will need to meet the following selection criteria.

  • Passion for supporting vulnerable individuals. 
  • Ability to engage with peers and the public comfortably.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to our strategy of ensuring safety and well-being for everyone.
  • Have the ability to present the key points of an argument persuasively and be able to influence decisions.
  • Be able to work collaboratively and productively with a broad range of parties who may have differing needs/agenda.
