The role is Monday to Friday and will include some hybrid working with up to 2 days’ a week working from home dependent on business needs.

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will train, advise, develop and mentor the Subject Matter Experts (SME’s), Apprentices, Interns, entry level Data Analysts and Graduates – allocating & scheduling projects and supporting the Analytics Manager to ensure that the data roadmap objectives are attained.
This will include liaising with colleagues throughout the business to support their development and establish relationships with our internal/external business partners regarding data gathering, analysis and reporting.
Other responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Gathering, designing & developing systems (specifically Power BI development).
- End to end development covering Business requirements gathering, Data analysis and reporting capabilities, continuous performance monitoring and establishing mechanisms to identify improvements, measure business benefits & undertake gap analysis.
- Co-ordinating all requests for changes to existing dashboards, requests for new dashboards as well as reporting requirements to meet business objectives and road-mapping projects via the Project request tracker.
- Managing the underlying data in SQL to transform the data in readiness for Power BI development of dashboards.
- Reviewing external BI developments so that new BI capabilities, enhanced automation, new add-ons or services can be implemented/procured to enhance & automate the existing systems.
- Sharing best practise and engaging with colleagues across the wider rail industry.
- Working across the business with a wide range of stakeholders to solve problems and to communicate the data in a timely, relevant and customer-centric manner.
- Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases/data systems.
- Creatively applying the most appropriate analytical methods to address business questions.
- Identifying, analysing and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets using statistical techniques and providing ongoing performance reports.
The experience you’ll need
To be considered for this role we recommend you demonstrate the below in your application;
- Desirable to be Microsoft certified in PL300 and/or DP600
- Qualified with a STEM or numeracy based degree
- Be a power user of Microsoft Power BI as well as be proficient in all Office 365 applications
- Be well versed in a variety of BI & ETL software (e.g. DAX, SQL, Azure tools, Power Query, R or Python)
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to get on with people at all levels
- Strong documentation and presentation skills
- Experience in working with and ingesting a variety of different data sources of different data types (e.g. JSON, CSV, API etc.)
- Have strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and across a variety of different datasets
- Proven working experience as an Analyst is essential
- Beneficial to have experience in Power Apps and Power Automate
